An Afternoon at DITO: Bahay ng Sining over Icy Treats

DITO: Bahay ng Sining is possibly my favorite hidden gem in Marikina. This coffee shop thrives in local art. Only one jeep away from my house, I go here all the time to just chill, read a book, play board/card games or admire the many forms of art it is laced in.

The coffee shop houses many local art in the form of paintings, comic books, dance, spoken word, books, music, poetry–you name it. The walls are full of art. The floor is painted in the style of Van Gogh’s Starry Night. Countless events featuring artists have been held here and have regular bazaars as well on Sundays.

This is where they hold their events and performances. I love how they designed their tables in a mess artsy way by splashing different colors of paint on them. I’ve witnessed one event performance so far but I promise I’ll try to go to more and blog about them too.

Here is their collection of board and card games. They have quite a large selection, enough to make it hard to pick something to play. Highly recommend Pandemic! It’s quite hard to understand the mechanics but once you do, it’ll get wildly addictive.

Here are some of the local art they have for sale. There are more during their Sunday Bazaars.

Here’s the local cat. I’ve seen it walking around the coffee shop a few times. It(I don’t now the gender nor its name huhu) looks good with its silver collar. It’s rather friendly as well so don’t be afraid to say hi.IMG_8561.jpg

My favorite thing to order here is the Iced Coffee (100PHP). You get a tall glass of creamy iced coffee topped with vanilla ice cream. It’s not strong, but delicious.

Also tried their Home Made Ice Cream (80PHP). I wanted the avocado but it was unavailable. Tried the mango instead. The texture was weird but wasn’t bad. It was kind of sticky and it felt like there were thin ice crystals and that it was syrup-y.
This won’t be the last blog I’ll post about DITO: Bahay ng Sining. I’ll try more of their menu and attend their events soon.
