Maison de Sushi is a Japanese-Thai fusion restaurant known for their 130QR buffet and their aesthetic interior. Good Japanese food is hard to come by here in Doha and I am glad to have one so close to home, located in 01 Mall, Ain Khalid.
Aside from their authentic and delicious dishes, Maison de Sushi draws its appeal from its beautiful interior. You will be enchanted the moment you step inside. A rainfall of flowers and lights with blooming large white rose lanterns, as if something out of a fairy tale.
The place is quite small and tight, the tables and chairs bulky and heavy. It was hard to move around especially at rush hour when the place is packed. The tables where small and uneven due to their design which made their equally large and bulky plates difficult to place.
A woman in a kimono will greet you as soon as you sit and will hand you an ipad of their menu. Feel free to browse through their dishes and ask for whatever you want, remember to specify how many pieces as well. You can choose from salads & soups, hand rolls, thai curries, sashimi, noodles, tempura, stir fried rice, stir fried dishes, sushi, maki, raw maki, cooked maki, and dessert.
This being our first time, my boyfriend and I were overwhelmed with the number of dishes they offered and didn’t know which to order. We tried to be modest and ordered 3 kinds of sushi to start us off: Toboki Black, Toboki Orange and Salmon Sushi. We finished these up in seconds. A little tip: order more. If the restaurant is full it takes a while for the waitress to take your order. I noticed that there was only one taking orders, the girl in the kimono, the rest were just servers.
Next up we ordered (from top left to right) Seaweed Sushi, Toboki Green, Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon and Golden Dragon at the end. All were delicious and fresh.
The Salmon Sashimi was served tossed in a rich sauce and topped off with black caviar, a perfect side appetizer with your sushi.
I ordered the Chicken Thai Curry. I’m not a fan of curry myself but I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone and it did not disappoint. The curry sauce was creamy and flavorful and a generous amount of meat. The rice are formed in cute triangles too, certainly a unique plating effect.
My boyfriend ordered the Stir Fry Teriyaki Beef and Maison Fried Rice which was also formed into a little triangle. The beef was cut into thin and small slices, the teriyaki sauce was juicy and savory. Absolutely delectable.
For dessert we ordered banana tempura with a side of ice cream drizzled in strawberry syrup. It was a complete delight and the perfect way to end the meal. The breading was crunchy and the banana was warm and soft inside. Quite a treat eaten together with the ice cream.
Will definitely be back again!
