The Chainsmokers Live in Doha

The start of 2018 has been shaky for me and The Chainsmokers concert was one of the only things I looked forward to as I entered January. It’s awesome that Doha, being the considerably boring country it is when it comes to musical acts, was the first GCC country The Chainsmokers get to perform in thanks to Social Studio and Shop Qatar. Naturally, as opportunities like these are scarce here, my friends and I definitely had to go.

The concert was held in Doha Exhibition and Convention Center (DECC) on January 25th of 2018. Surprisingly, when we arrived at around 6:30 PM (doors open at 6) there wasn’t much traffic and it wasn’t difficult to find a parking spot. The venue was pretty nice, W Hotel had a booth that served food and drinks, Redbull had a booth for mocktails as well. We quite enjoyed the free photo booth especially because we all got a copy of the photo, unlike most photo booths that only give out 1 or two copies.

So glad I got to experience this night with great company. Disappointing how the crowd wasn’t as lively as I hoped. Probably because there wasn’t any alcohol involved. If the venue was a club it would be a lot different.

My favorite part of the night was when The Chainsmokers played Blink-182’s Whats My Age Again? and The Killers’ Mr. Brightside. I did not expect them to play music like that at all. Being a punk rock kinda girl myself, I loved them and sang my heart out. The crowd didn’t recognize the songs though and it felt as if my boyfriend and I were the only ones who loved the tracks and sang along.

They played their hits, never really finishing a song, constantly mixing and mashing songs with beats and drops but I guess that’s EDM for you.

This is our second concert together! First was Steve Aoki, yet another EDM artist. We aren’t really EDM fans though so hopefully our next concert will be more of our preferred genres like rap or rock bands.

It was an amazing experience and definitely one for the books. Hoping for more great acts like these to come to Doha this 2018! Fingers crossed!
