A few months ago I won a Facebook contest on Shangri-La Doha’s account and won 2 free buffet lunches. I decided to use it on my birthday and went with my boyfriend (who I was celebrating our first anniversary with on that same day, yep on my birthday). Its safe to say that we went home completely stuffed and happy with a hefty case of food coma.
The Shangtastic Friday Brunch is available every Friday, from 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM, at Shangri-la Doha Level 2. Priced at 305 QAR, inclusive of soft drinks, or 405 QAR, inclusive of house beverages. The gift certificate we got was inclusive of alcohol.
The Shangtastic Friday Brunch brings together Shangri-la Doha’s Sridan, Fuego (Argentinean) and Santorini (Greek) in one spectacular buffet feast.
One thing I noticed the moment I walked in is their wide array of alcohol. Mind you this was brunch, way too early to be day drinking. My boyfriend and I don’t drink that much but I had a few sips of strawberry mimosa just to try.
There was also live music by a very attractive DJ. Not a fan of this though as it got really loud and was hard to enjoy the food with the constant loud beats. I would have preferred a more relaxed and chill environment.
The buffet showcased a fusion of different cuisines bringing together Sridan’s Southeast Asian and Indian dishes, Fuego’s variety of meats and Santorini’s fresh chilled seafood.
The highlight of my buffet experience was the mussels. These were literal umami bombs with each shell. A freaking flavor explosion in your mouth! If I wasn’t allergic to seafood I swear to god I could have eaten 10 more. This deserved an individual photo. Best seafood experience of my life.
I have a pretty small appetite but I tried to make sure to save room for desert. They had home made ice creams, pastries, cakes, Arabic sweets, a spectacular chocolate fountain display and raspberry balls stuffed with raspberry pudding (which turned out to be my favorite!). Sweet tooth definitely satisfied.
The staff were kind enough to treat my boyfriend and I to a special anniversary cake. It was also my birthday but I asked the staff to make it an anniversary cake instead because I hate it when restaurant staff (or anyone else for that matter) sing me happy birthday. The staff were very accommodating and made this a truly pleasant experience.
