*Vietnam was colonized by France for many years. The Notre Dame was built during their time. Vietnam is therefore heavily influenced by the European colony.

Fun fact: I’m a quarter Vietnamese. Yes. My grandmother is Vietnamese. My grandfather met her while he was working there and took her back to the Philippines to marry her. I’ve been to Vietnam once before, many years ago that I can’t remember much of my time there. I’m happy to have visited again and documented it!

Boracay 2016

So my family went back to the Philippines (they live in Doha, Qatar, where I grew up) to have their summer vacation and of course we went to Boracay. We’ve been going to Boracay every year since I was 15, I think?  Anyway, Boracay is still such a beautiful island. Crowded and heavily commercialized than how it was before, but still incredibly beautiful. Here’s our travel video. I also have a few recommendations if you’re planning to visit the island. ELYU: Flotsam & Jetsam + Makai Bowls!

Flotsam & Jetsam is the absolute place to be in San Juan, La Union. It is a well loved hostel and known for its cozy, rustic aura. They say that people who stay here all become friends—no strangers. Our favorite hangout place was at the kubo where numerous bean bags and a few duyans were. It’s also an open place so even non guests can hang out. But one of the selling points, for me, is their delicious and refreshing Makai Bowls!
